| China |
| |
| China is
traditionally, the centerpiece of any wedding registry. But even
if your idea of entertaining is ordering pizza for the gang, there are
many pros to registering for elegant tableware: It's the center
of any table setting, can inject loads of style into your home decor,
and it's a big investment. China is something you can keep
forever, maybe even pass along to your children one day. We'll
help you learn the lingo, figure out your personal style, and care for
it once you take it home. |

| Formal or Casual? |
| China is a catchall
term often used to describe dinnerware and dishes. It can be
casual or formal. Formal or fine china is usually more expensive
and made of a higher quality. Formal china includes bone china
and porcelain. Casual china, such as earthenware and stoneware
is often less costly and a lower quality. |
| |
| Some bridal gurus
advocate buying two sets: one formal and one casual, but there's no
need to if you don't want to. True china, once reserved for
special occasions, is now making its way to everyday use. |
| |
| Today is absolutely
acceptable to mix patterns. An easy way to mix and match is to
vary different prints or colors of the same pattern or blend different
types of china to create a funkier look. |

| Flatware |
| |
| There are four basic
flatware patterns: |
| |
| * Plain - Plain
flatware has a pleasant, rounded appearance. It's simple enough
to match with the most ornate china, but can also be paired with
simple white china to create a modern looking table. |
| |
| * Floral - This
flatware can be heavy and ornate, with much embellishment and detail,
or it can have a delicate floral design etched on its handle. If
you're romantic at heart, this flatware's for you. |
| |
| * Banded - This
flatware contains an etched band around the edges of its handles.
It's the perfect complement for banded china. If you plan on
doing a lot of formal, elegant entertaining, consider banded flatware. |
| |
| * Angular - This type
of flatware is basic and streamlined, perfect for modern tables.
It's a great match for plain white china and can go from casual to
formal without a hitch. |
